It seems to be the general consensus among scientists that the cleverest human being alive today is Richard Dawkins of Oxford University, England.

He has not only dazzled the scientific world with his work on evolutionary biology but he has also clearly shown through his work that religions of all denominations are just pure nonsense and superstition.

His latest book 'The God Delusion' is quite simply a work of genius and will be seen by later generations as being as influential in educating the masses as Darwins 'Evolution of the Species' was back in the 19th century.

I don't think you could give a definitive answer (I know that's a cop out) but how could you say that Steven Hawking is more intelligent than someone like Richard Dawkins for example. Maybe its not a scientist, although science seems to require a certain degree of creativity and original thinking at least for major breakthroughs.

I don´t think that somebody will ever be able to answer your question for sure. Certainly people will say: Einstein, Steven Hawking, ... , but, what about the unknown ones (maybe a single farmer that has never gone to a city) that are not in the Media?
