It is a fact that the bulk of deaths in Vietnam were middle and lower middle class kids-College deferrments (Cheney)-special considerations and placement (Bush)-Oh yea I am a Vietnam Vet-the one positive thing about the draft-is that if the rich kids are forced to go-you are going to be sure it is a War that has to be fought.

WHOM do you think starts draft bull s*** not the Republicans IT'S always the Democrats. They write the rules and make sure their kids are exempt. Also remember more rich Republican kids service than rich Democrats kids.
The Democrats are war mongers don't think so Korea and your very own Vietnam!

First of all, thank you for serving our country during the Vietnam conflict, I have a lot of respect for you men.

If there is a draft, I feel rich, poor and middle class should go, that would be the right thing to do, no loopholes included. Unfortunately, it's not like that, but what can we do about it? What was done back during the Vietnam conflict when rich kids were sent to college instead of war? Protests did change some things but not soon enough. Money talks.

The draft should be equal and fair to all. I personally do not think we need it. A professional Army is better than a conscripted Army.

In time of need most good citizens and former vets like myself will volunteer.

However in your question, unfortunately there are always exemption to the rule no matter where on earth you live or what you believe in, people will jerk the systems. However I know if I was drafted, I know some senator's son will have a way out. I am a better person as I feel that I will do my duty and not let that effect me.

There is a working copy of the proposed 'draft' already somewhere on the 'Net. I am still looking for it.

It clearly eliminates the issues that the previous draft had.
Specifically it prevent 'education' from being used as an 'out.
Anyone within 12 months of graduation gets one year exempt (and thats ALL they get.) Females are not exempt this time, although pregnancy is a determining factor of course. Those deciding to 'seek asylum' are out of luck this time. The US signed extradition treaties years ago to allow for the return of any 'dodgers' heading north, south, or even attempting to go to England as a Rhodes Scholar.

Yes they will tolerate it. College is more available to everyone now days and the presses will be burning off deferment applications like mad. The average person volunteering today is from middle to upper middle class incomes. I see the biggest problem with the draft is getting enough personnel that meet the weight & health requirements.

I'm in favor of the draft. If I have to go, let everyone else go. The Israeli's have a system, whereby everyone finishes high school goes in the Army, and after doing their services, gets on with their life.

The public always have tolerated loopholes for the rich, and always will. It's part of the brainwashing that corporate America is so good at.
