Actually the true reason is because if someone who continues playing with no points is actually playing just for the love of the game... Anyway, an English officer devised the game and scoring, not a frenchman.

well,since the answer is already been given,i'll give my own opinion instead.=p
uhm..since zero is not so good to be listened and the players sure will be discouraged by the 'zero',so they replace 'zero' with 'love'..lol~dont know what i am saying..
