Hello people,

Recently I have been busy applying for graduate applications for finance (and other) companies. However the formal requirements for graduate programmes is a 2(1) or a 1st.

I have recently completed my Masters, for which I was predicted a distinction, however I will not ascertain my result untill March 2007.

Does anybody have any career advice for a 2(2) graduate???

Hi scarlett,

No, I am not only considering a career in finance, but I am keeping an open mind. I have applied to sectors in finance, oil industry, consultancy etc. I don't mind working in different sectors, so long as the graduate management programme is a good one.

I am pretty open. The job doesn't have to be in London. I don't mind working somewhere else. To be honest I would actually prefer if the job was based somewhere like New York, Japan or Germany. LOL.

My BA (hons) was in Modern History, My MA was in International Politics and Human Rights, however most of my work experience has been within banking and Finance.

At the moment I am exploring career opportunities in a variety of areas including finance, diplomacy, international relations as well as several others (c'mon man - I just wanna a top quality professional job that makes me think and gives money money money lol)

Hi There!

I work in HR for a major beverage company and we dont specify degree classifications. Are you only looking at finance companies? Are they in London? If so the competition will be fierce for those. Have you considered either outside London or going for a management programme in a different sector? That would give you some solid experience and hopefully open some doors for you. Once youre in with a decent company its pretty easy to move between areas.

Hey there. I am a recruitment manager for a consultancy in London, so I am quite well placed to answer this!... Unfortunately you are right, it is quite hard for someone with 2:2 to get into big corporate. What uni did you go to?.. this usually helps if its a good one. My advice for you would be to aim for a smaller company, or a company that doesn't have the high application requirments, get some really good experience. Then apply back to the same companies in about 1 / 2 years... You will find you will probably get a better job there and start on a better salary, then the new graduates with the 2:1 and 1sts. Best of luck...

Grades arent as important as people think they are what mattert in the real world is EXPERIENCE!!! Do not be afraid to start at the bottom your rewards will come but put it this way, if you are hiring for a position would you hire the graduate with a 1st and no experience or the graduate with a 2:2 and 2years direct experience?

I know who I would go for,

initially, a 2.2 isn't undesirable and you have long previous directly to do a masters so of course you at the instant are not a failure and employers will see this. a brilliant form of jobs specify particular stipulations yet often applicants, or maybe the honestly interest holders, do no longer meet one hundred% of necessary standards stipulated in the interest specification. i could proceed employing for graduate programmes regardless. definite, you're probably to be regarded over for different graduates with 2.a million and well-known levels yet lots of those will possibly no longer have a masters. to no longer point out, in case your utility can atone for no longer assembly the qualification prerequisite with different educational achievements and/or adventure, that is guaranteed to be pronounced via employers. sturdy success with your interest seek.
