My husband and I are hardworking folks who by the grace of God are in of need very little.
We have performed random acts of kindness from time to time, but we have not been aware of many bestowed upon us until last night.
Two people we vaguely know knocked at the door and presented us with a holiday fruit basket. It wasn't much, just a small basket of mixed fruit and nuts.
Taken quite by surprise, we thanked the couple, placed the basket on the table next to the door and went back to our respective chairs to watch television.
My eyes kept going back to the fruit basket. What a kind, thoughtful thing to do. What had made those people give us a gift? It seemed strange that anyone would think of us. Didn't they have a party to attend or gifts to wrap?
Tears came into my eyes. Everyone is needy from time to time and this gift was a way to remind us that others do care.
Every gift, no matter how small, makes a huge impact on the recipient.
Suddenly my world seems much brighter!

The only one that comes to mind was a guy stopped in the grocery store parking lot to teach a little boy, maybe about 3 or 4 how to give a high five. I think it is really nice when people talk to the children and show they care about them. I have been out working with the public every day for a week now, hundreds of people, I have talked to over 500 people. And that is the only one I can think of! But I saved a life yesterday, and today I saved someone from getting arrested for trying to sell a CD to get some food, and bought him some food.

Wow. That is special.

I hope you two have wonderful holiday season. It sounds like you deserve it.

When someone else does an act of kindness, it keeps us thinking 'Why did they do this?' or 'Why didn't I do something like this?' If we were all a little bit more alike to the couple that presented you with a gift, the entire world would be different.

I was watching a church program this morning and he said basically you reap what you sow and for all the kind acts you bestow upon someone God will harvest an even bigger one for you. You planted the seed by being kind and giving to others and now you are receiving what was harvested and there is plenty more to come! GOD BLESS YOU! GOD BLESS THE PEOPLE AT YOUR DOOR WITH THAT BASKET THAT WAS VERY KIND OF THEM.

I think the best thing about presents is simply when they are "right" - a thoughtful present will be cherished much more than one that, however expensive, was given just because the giver felt they had to. This reassures me as I don't have much money :)

the best is knowing that you did something nice even if the person doesnt find out about it.

i lost my book once at school and i was going crazy looking for it. it wasnt in my locker or my bag or any of my classrooms! later that day i was still really upset about losing it, but when i got to my locker there it was! someone obviously found it and instead of just leaving it whereever they saw it, they looked inside for the name, and put it in my locker for me. to this day i dont know who did it, but i think its so nice that someone would do that for me. (so now, whenever i see something on the floor i look to see if there is a name and i bring it to either thier locker or a friend of thiers to give to them...)

its these little acts of kindness that makes the world go round.

What an inspiring story. I believe in random acts of kindness and do so without any expectation of acknowledge or favor. Enjoy your gift and continue your positive actions.

Not to spoil the holiday cheer, but if you don't know them then I wouldn't eat the fruit. Not everyone can be trusted.
