My Aunt just had a baby last night. She did not see a doctor the entire pregancy and on all type of drugs also. The baby is not doing too good and going through withdraw along with herself. I am not sure what they do in these cases. She also has 4 other kids at home with nothing for Christmas. What I want to know is do they take the child/children from her? Will they allow her family to help and take one of the kids if they do get put in foster care? I am willing to take the baby but not sure what I should do or how to go about it! The father is in the picture but he says he was not aware of her doing!

In Texas drug test on newborns are now mandatory. With that being said I know of someone who's child failed one and Child Protective Services. THey interviewed the existing children 5 & 7. In her case it was marijuana. They found she was a fit mother and left the kids there. In another case it was cocaine and took the children. Now they are going to try placing the children with any available family members before they put them in foster care. That is usually the last resort.

Why cant you just take the children?
You are family, and the mother can turn over temporary rights to you.
If she does not get better, then they are in the right place. If you get protective services, then they will take the kids, and you probably wont get them.

I don't see the need to get an agency involved if the family is capable of taking care of the family.

Grandparents raise grand kids all the time without involving child protective services.
I do not believe protective services is the only way to help a child, I believe it is a last result.

Well if you are at least 21...and financially able to take care of the kids...they usually find it best to keep kids in the family...But, if the dad is around and he passes all the child protective services's test then he would get them...

you should call shild services if she isnt takeing care of her kids some one needs to and let the person you report her to know that you are willing to care for oneof the children usually they prefer the children with family so im almost sure they would let the family take care of the kids

if the father is in the situation still, and honestly was not aware of what was going on. then he will probably get the kids. but more then likely he will have to take a "pop" drug test.
