With all this xmas nonsense going, and hearing the same old songs weve had for decades, i was wondering just how much artists like Shakin Stevens receive eachtime *merry xmas everyone* is played on radio or tv?

It used to be about two and a half pence - performing rights.

It really depends on two main things. The record company, and who it is played by. Many artists that are just starting and get a record contract get conned out of alot of money because they didn't properly understand the offer. In some rare situations, artists wont get a penny because the contract states that all royalties go to the label. Now well known artists will have good record contracts and so they probably get a decent percent of the royalties. Who it is played by is another factor as the size of the audience will affect how much a station/channel/company/etc will have to pay.
