When you filter ink by paper filtration by pouring the ink into a funnel with filter paper in it, is the ink supposed to stay trapped in the funnel or go through the filter paper and through the funnel? When i tried this when ink was mixed with other substances, the ink stayed on top while the liquids went through. Is this supposed to happen?

As far as I know, first the filter paper absorbs any liquid in immediate contact with it and wets itself, then the rest of the fluid seeps through.

What u mention is not supposed to happen, it depends upon the viscosity of the ink too, if its ball pen ink..... what u said is true.

The Pigment, the stuff/chemical that makes the color, is supposed to stay on the surface, where you can see it. There is some pretty complex chemistry in some inks. Much of what it does when applied to paper is intentional, especially inkjet ink.
