Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and yours. May Santa have what you want on his sleigh and may 2007 be better for all than 2006. yes Christmas is to commercialized especially when Christmas items are being put out to compete with Halloween.

I agree. People are spending way too much on each other lately. I think it's about $1000 per person? It's ridiculous. There's so much stress put on people to find the "perfect" gift(s) for people and it almost makes Christmas less enjoyable for me, personally. In the last few years, my family and I spend little money on each other. Christmas for us is not about the gifts, but is about family getting together and having a good time. It has been a lot more enjoyable for us since the focus has not been on the gifts, but the presence of loved ones.

"Christmas" is largely a commercial event anyway. These days it may be named for "Christ" but has little or nothing to do with him. What would shepherds be doing tending sheep in the middle of December? In the Biblical account, all indications are that the character "Jesus" was born in September or October.
The December celebration has more to do with the winter solstice, or the celebration of Saturnalia, a much older pagan holiday...

in a lot of ways it really has become a present popularity contest. if more people spent more time thinking about helping others who have nothing or celebrating the miracle of jesus birth instead of celebrating the sale at macys we would all enjoy christmas more. money has nothing to do with it; christmas is supposed to be so much more than that. i hope you find the spirit of christmas! happy holidays.

yeah Christmas is too commercialized because it isn't about the presents its about love and the birth of Christ.

everybody says this every year. along with "christmas gets earlier every year." They've probably been saying it since the Victorians made it about more than religion.
