You would think we could have made it past this primitive stage by now.

Testosterone, my friend.

Thousands of years of evolution to make us hunters. Its in our genes.

Part of the problem is can be traced to testosterone, but sometimes the problem is they were raised in a violent home, sometimes they were beat and other times they are mentally unstable such as with psychopaths.

But Testosterone values can be measured and just because someone is violent it does not always mean their testosterone level is high either. But the hormone testosterone often times does play a part in aggressiveness.

Violence as with anything can be taught, look at football, it is a violent sport that society for some reason condones, not to mention fighting itself. What are we teaching our children when we send them off to play football or let them watch WWF or the heavy weight title fights? I will answer that question aggresive behavior.

Actually after thinking this through I will place most of the blame not on the human component testosterone but instead on what we teach our children in the following areas. How to handle their emotions and what is OK such as football and violent sports along with encouraging boy to play violent sports. Not to mention we still perpetuate predujice, look at how much people still hate gays and continue to teach their children that one type of person or one race is wrong or bad, Tough sports sure why not, but in football you are taught to hit em hard and take em down. Violent sports fuel violent behavior. Not the best life lesson I suspect.

As long as we teach or encourage agressive behavior and hate our society will never outgrow it!

Peace

People answered this question, just not completely.

First, it's years and years of being the hunters, protectors, and fighters. Men act like the hunters, protectors, and fighters because we used to be them.

Testostarone is another answer.

Another answer is that men's brains kick into "low-gear" survival mode. When we get ticked at someone, our brain says "Hey, this guy is threatening our existance. Defend!" There are three stages of the brain. When our brain sends that message, our brain goes into the lowest gear. This gear will do anything to defend ourselves...kick, punch, kill....

Women's brains act differently. When their brains send the "Defend!" message, they usually react by spreading rumors. For girls, emotions hurt more than physical pain.

Hope I've helped!!

**Edit**
Who says males are violent? What's the standard for being violent? Maybe guys aren't "violent" and women just are less violent.

Some men have extra testosterone. Some have a XX chromosome instead of XY I think. Not all men are violent.
Believe it or not, it could be culture.
It could be misdirection of anger.
It could be a behavioral adjustment.
Some women give up one sadistic male only to find another one and on and on.

Think about it. Men are not allowed in our society to have and share feelings without being called gay. So men, as boys are programmed to be the strong ones and not show emotion. Therefore men are conditioned to have 2 emotions, happy and mad. Black and white. It is no wonder that men show more aptitude for violence. Women do the same when they "learn to be tough" at an early age. It is a sad state. Merry Christmas. Nana
