If you change this setting, you will set up your hard drive as virtual memory. What this means is that if there is not enough RAM left, your hard drive will be accessed and whenever there are reads from your hard drive, it slows down performance. Instead of setting up virtual memory on your hard drive, it would be better to purchase additional memory instead. Also, if you are tapping memory, you can check back ground processes first and make sure your system is running efficiently. You can clean your computer and git rid of the junk by using a couple free programs. One is CCleaner and the other Ad-Aware. You can get these at download.com. Also, you can go into msconfig (start >> Run >> type msconfig, go to startup tab, uncheck undesirable programs) and get rid of programs that you don't need and hog memory. Be careful about what you remove. Sometimes these are little spybot programs that cause pop ups. Make sure and be careful here though. Google the programs first to make sure you should remove them. Try these steps to get rid of spyware and junk and see if that kills nasty pop ups and also speeds up your system. Good Luck.

Never mess around with the systems settings.. until you know what your doing...

and let windows do the settings for the virtual memory

virtual memory is hard disk space used by windows to make your computer run faster... it loads programs into memory then puts them into virtual memory space on the hard drive, it can access the hard drive fast from virtual mem than it can from the program files... once files are in virtual mem they are all ready open so it saves time....

Set the lower and upper value to 1.5 times the amount of memory installed and restart.
