Why do you think Georgia wants to get more gas supplies from Azerbaijan?

A couple of reasons. First of all, tensions between the Russian federation and the former micro-states of the USSR have always been high and secondly Russia has an aggressive agenda to become Europe's main supplier of oil and gas supplies which would give them the position of controlling policy in the region and curtailing criticism from countries which they export to. Think of the price-doubling as punishment against Georgia.

It is a way of controling that country. All of the countries around Russia are being supplied with oil from Russia. If Russia doesnt like what they are doing raise prices or worse cut off the supply.

Just an overall political move of post-Soviet Union era conflict in the area. Tensions always run high between Georgia and Russia so I'm guessing they are just building up the heat.
