I received ugly underwear. I was a child and I thought it was humiliating. But I showed my good manners and thanked the person with a (hypocritical) smile. After the gift giver left, my mother told me how mature I was and she hugged me. Then at dinner she gave me extra portions of dessert.

That I gave....probably the first time i got my mom a gift certificate for something...that's when I learned that I need to put "more thought into it"....at least, THAT was the worst reaction i ever got to a gift I gave someone at Christmas.
That I RECEIVED...the lovely demand upon me to clone myself so i can be 3 different places at once on Christmas. I find that usually "going with the flow" at Xmas time just results in getting sucked into a whirlpool of everybody trying to force and out-do Norman Rockwell.

there have been some circumstances that the in-regulations have basically undeniable forgotten approximately me (or skipped over, yet no longer forgot.) The worst is my birthday. i've got been married for 18 years, and my mothers and dads have not as quickly as forgotten my spouse's birthday. i'm fortunate if those men will come as much as me 2 months later and say "howdy. did no longer you have a birthday a whilst returned?"

Nothing at all,
I gave my boss a nice gift for her Birthday (October) she never even said thank you-
and I took her a couple of Christmas gifts for Christmas on last Thursday- she never even sent me a Christmas card...
a Christmas bonus wouldd have been nice (25$) woul be nice of her, or even a candle or something cheap- a bag of candy- but she gave me nothing- never even said merry Christmas to me.
I am so sad about this.

my presents are never dreadful. i always appreciate that people have thought to buy something for me, no matter what it is. the gesture counts most, not the object.
