if you have a mantel peice
get some chicken wire make a semi box like frame and sit on top of mantel. Decorate it with garlands of holly and ivy or tinsel etc so you can't see the wires. Put some heavyish christams ornaments on the back to weigh it down and hang the stockings on the front.

They make stocking hangers that sit on the mantle and have a hook just to hang the stocking on. Nails work too, I am sure that is how it has been working for many years.

drape them over the mantle of the fire place and put a book on top to hold them down (if they are on the floor in the morning"glee must be heavy)

On your mantle,nail some nails and if your stockings have loopholes on them,hang them on the nails.
