I believe he was the 2nd spirit to visit Scrooge in Charles Dickens' "Christman Carol". If you have ever seen the film version from 1938, this spirit is jolly and fat and carrys a golden horn, that brings camaraderie to others. In the novel itself, this spirit also reveals two poor starving children he protects under his robe, called "Ignorance" and "Want" and beseeches Scrooge to take care of such. It is this spirit of Christmas I believe in: a generous, caring soul protecting each generation from ignorance and want.
