When we sequence a genome, there are millions (billions?) of peices of information in the form of A,G,C,T. We know what a gene generally looks like, and we know of a lot of protein structures that have multiple possible gene codes.

Bioinformatics is the science of using computers to sift through all of this information to find genes. One day we will know where all of the genes in a genome are, thanks to bioinformatics.
