they float, bounce and are colourful. adults give them to children as presents and small gifts, and give them with presents and they are used as decorations for partys...balloons translate into fun (not only for children). i think children like balloons because their parents and grandparents like balloons.

I've always wondered. Cause personally, balloons freak me out! I am always on the edge thinking its going to burst! ah!!!

Guido is right. They're brightly colored, lightweight and easy to play with. To a little kid, they're really neat because they float in the air as well.
