I have about 300 pages of hard copy text that I need to amend; maybe change a few lines here and there. It would be quite daunting to rewrite the whole lot. Is there a program out there that can recognize scanned text images and convert them into 'Word'?

Search on Google or Yahoo. There are softwares to do this though may not be 100% precise. You may also have to spend some bucks. Best Luck!

There is software to do this. Note though, that every one of these programs has its own little glitches. No program I've ever used has recognized every character. Some do not maintain formatting. For work, I honestly found it quicker to retype the whole document. But for 300 pages, I would give the software(s) a shot.

most scanners come with software that will convert the scanned "image" into a text file. From there, it can be imported into Word.
