Australians have a great sense of humour, particularly about themselves. We are hard-working and believe that everyone should have a " fair go " that is, that everyone should have the right to be treated equally. We believe in helping each other in times of need and in offering help to people in other countries who are less fortunate. We believe in democratic rights, the right to express our opinions about our government's policies and the right to protest if we see injustice, the right to practise our own religious beliefs and to follow the customs and traditions of our ancestors whether they be indigenous peoples or from any corner of the globe.
This is my slightly idealised version of Australians but the essential qualities are still there in most people you meet.

Australians in the past have stood against tyrany injustice, and stood for a fair go for all. Currently Australians seem to have buried their head in the sand and think they are lucky, because some Australians have taken on U.S.A. consumerism, instead of our traditional qualities, of help friends, and being kind and compassionate people. God help us if we continue along the current path, and completely lose our own national identity.
