I asked a co-worker, he said I probably just had low oil-so I checked and put a quart in. But the light is still on! I think it may be a leak, but I'm not sure what else it could be! How would I know and if it is a leak, about how much would it cost me? Please help! :)

Low oil pressure or not enough oil in the pan. Run some Lucas Heavy Duty Oil Stabilizer on you next oil change. It's real thick and will help out. I cant drive with out a bottle. If your car leaks you would see a puddle under the car. But it could be burning it just do an oil change and put in a half bottle of Lucas.

Oil level is extremely important so check with dipstick to assure it is at proper level. You engine holds around 5 quarts, if you have a massive oil leak you will know by smell (possibly burning) and BIG puddles on ground when you move the car from sitting. There is additionally a possibility the oil pump is going or is bad.

When that light comes on do you hear any heavy metallic knocking sounds coming from engine? If so that is telling you there is no lubrication on the moving parts inside and it wont do it long before something breaks.

Now the lesser side of the coin is that it may simply be a bad oil pressure sending unit, if this is the case the light will illuminate and engine will NOT knock.

In any case repairs will have to be made. If just a sending unit, maybe 100. Leaks and oil pump could be in hundreds.

Hope this helps and happy holidays.

Low oil pressure, and this doesn't mean low oil level either. The level could be down two quarts and that light wouldn't come on. Your oil pump is probably shot; but likely so is the engine as it is nineteen years old. You're probably due for a new car unless you can get a good cheap used engine installed.
Personally, I wouldn't put any more money into it. You'd be throwing good money into something that could have another expensive breakdown a week later.
