I have a 2 year old daughter and me and my husband are trying for another baby...we dont want our kids to be to far apart in age...so the perfect time is now...the bad thing is though, i havent lost the weight from my first pregnancy and im 100lbs. overweight...so my question is if can i lose weight while pregnant...IF i just eat healthy (chicken, fish, veggies , fruit, milk) cut out all the junk that i eat now and just excercise (walking) nothing extreme...do you think i would lose weight by doing that? or do you think its just bad to lose weight in general???? I just want to start eating healthy and hopefully lose weight as a result of it...tell me what you think.

I had a hard time losing weight between kids and my kids are almost 2 years apart. Just remember that you may be eating for 2 but that does not mean to over eat. Just eat sensible exercise a bit a day until it gets hard on you. Won't hurt to sneak a snack either, long as it isn't overdoing it. You may lose a little weight before the baby starts growing, but eating right assures you that you won't gain unnecessary weight and makes it easier after you have the baby to lose it if you keep up a sensible diet. It still took me a while to lose the weight after both kids and now I am half way to my goal.

I am in the same boat. I was over 100 pounds overweight before my pregnancy. I also have diabetes.

With only watching the amount of carbohydrates that I eat. I have only gained 6 pounds and I am at 21 weeks. The doctor isn't worried at all because of my initial weight and tells me that I may actually weigh less than when I started once the baby is born.

As long as you do it sensibly and your doctors is ok with it, not gaining a lot of weight is good.

That being said, don't go on a diet. Eat right, exercise within reason, but don't starve yourself or do anything radical.

Good luck!

Hi there. I can certainly understand your concerns.
I would have to agree with the other answers that you have received on here. The important thing to remember when you are pregnant is that you are eating to nourish your baby. If you eat healthy foods and make sure that you are getting lots of protein (very important) then you should be fine. I would not focus on losing weight. IN fact I am pretty sure that if you go in for your check up and have actually LOST weight the doctor is going to be pretty upset, regardless of what you weigh before your pregnancy. Pregnancy is just not a time to safely lose weight. Losing weight puts tremendous stress on your body. In order to lose weight you must get past your body's natural tendency to hoard calories when they are cut back, and force your body to literally eat itself. This is a terrible strain on your body and not something that you should be forcing it to do when you are trying to grow a new little person.
If I were you I would probably try to keep my weight gain to the minimun healthy standard, between 25 and 30 pounds. Most of that will be baby and pregnancy related gain and should be pretty easy to lose after the baby comes.
By the way, breast feeding is the best thing you can do for yourself and your baby. Nursing is the only time in your life that you will burn up calories like crazy for doing absolutely nothing! You will burn up around 1000 calories a day nursing a baby full time. By the time I weaned my babies ( I have 5) at about one year, I was always back to my pre-baby weight. I think it is mother-natures way to help us get our figure back and also to help regulate how often we conceive.
Take care honey and remember to concentrate on growing a healthy baby! It takes lots of good food to do that so don't ever short change yourself in that department. Cut out the fats and the junk food but eat all the healthy foods that you and the baby want!
I hope you have a happy, healthy pregnancy and I wish you the very best of luck.
Blessings
Lady Trinity~

I wouldnt worry so much about losing the weight now. Just eat healthy and get some exercise. Talk to your OBGYN about this. I was about 40lbs overweight when i got pregnant with my second baby and I told the dr my concerns about gaining weight and such as I was already overweight. She just said that we will talk about what to do after the baby is born and to eat healthy and do the right things while pregnant. Too bad I've gained 50lbs and I've got 5 more weeks to go. At this point I'm just worrying about the pregnancy. Im very self conscious but I'll work my butt off after the baby comes to lose the weight. I don't think it's worth risking the health of my baby.

I know myself I'm 100 pounds overweight. NO baby weight to blame just me. My first pregnancy I lost 15 pounds and by the thime I delivered I was at pre pregnancy weight.

Currently with #2 and in 5 months I've lost 12 pounds. I'm having a harder time eating protien this time around so I've now started on protien shakes.

BUT for over weight women its not uncommonIF you completly change around your eating habits to lose weight. AS long as you have a OBGYN or midwife who is supportive and not freaking out. THATS GOOD.

I know with my first pregnancy I was not worried about the lack of weight gain or weight loss until you run into other pregnant woman and the topic of conversation was either do you know what your having or how much weight have you gained.

My midwifes sent me to a dietitian and she was looking at what I ate and all was good. SHe basically said your fat cells have enought nutrients to feed the child. NOW thats not giving you the right to starve yourself. BUT whatever I am not physically eating might be lacking in something My metabolism is burining the fat already on my body and getting what it needs.

BUT eating well is never going to harm you.

As long as you monitor your diet with you doctor and your intaking enough calories for the baby your fine. A healthy diet of the foods you listed are great for you and the baby but you have to be taking in enough for you both. Don't be suprised if you don't take off much weight during the pregnancy or if you gain instead, after you have the baby the healthy diet you monitored during the pregnancy will pay off and you will see the pounds melt away. Exercise is fine too as long as you don't begin anything too extreme that your body is not used too. Walking is great. Hope this helps but as most will tell you make sure your OB knows what you are doing.

posibility but i would start your diet now or at least 3 mths before trying to get preggo b/c when your diet has a whole 360 change it shocks your body in result you'll lose the weight but can have harmful effects on the baby since your body can only take but so much stess at one time. but i think it's great that you want to eat healthy and exercise just remember healthy mom means healthy baby. good luck

Yoga helped me drop some weight. Also always have healthy alternatives on hand to munch on such as Celery and Soy Nuts, stuff with low fat content. Don't skip meals, eat often to keep metabolism up.

You are NOT supposed to lose weight when you are pregnant. Make sure that you eat healthily, but do NOT try to lose weight.
That is extremely dangerous to you and your child.
If you try to lose weight, how will your baby grow to a healthy size in utero?
Eat healthy foods and don't overdo it.
DO NOT TRY TO LOSE WEIGHT.
