1. It is the General Assembly of the United Nations that designates international years. Some years have more than one designation - 2001, 2002 and 2005 had three each. Currently we are fast approaching the end of 2006, the International Year of Deserts and Desertification. Almost appropriately enough, this seems to have caused a drought in designations, as 2007 has none. However, do not despair, because 2008 is ..... wait for it ..... the International Year of The Potato - I kid you not.

All I know it will be Easter soon because the eggs will be on sale in the shops, never mind the next holidays being advertised before this one even finished. I have already booked my for next year.
