Depends what sort of word you mean.

The longest word in any major English dictionary is pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis (lung disease contracted from the inhalation of volcanic ash) but this word was actually made up by a writer of puzzles solely so that it would be the longest word.

The longest "genuine" word in the Oxford English Dictionary is pseudopseudohypoparathyroidism (a medical disorder) but techinical words aren't really fun or part of the game, as you make them by sticking lots of other words together.

For hundreds of years the longest "natural" word in the dictionary has been floccinaucinihilipilifi cation (estimating something as worthless) with 30 letters. This is my favourite for the title. (btw there shouldn't be a space in that word, but YA wouldn't display it otherwise. Weird)

Don't let anyone try to con you with antidisestablishmentarianism - it has a mere 29 letters.

"pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis"

The longest word in any major English language dictionary is pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis, a 45-letter word supposed to refer to a lung disease contracted from the inhalation of volcanic ash, but research has discovered that this word was originally intended as a hoax. It has since been used in a close approximation of its originally intended meaning, lending at least some degree of validity to its claim.[1]
