hi,
i am trying to install ubuntu on my laptop from the files from my usb flash drive. i have managed to save all the files onto my laptop and clicked on one of the files caled start and it says that i need to boot the cd to install ubuntu, how do i do it?
i dont have a cd drive or floppy drive.

hi dont download the files to your computer just boot it form your flash drive

You may be in a little bit of trouble. In order to install something from a USB drive, the BIOS or Basic Input Outpu System, of your laptop must support USB devices. If it doesn't, you won't be able to install anything from a USB device. Your options at this point are limited; your best hope is to get the computer back up and running with it's original software then going to the homepage of the laptop manufacturer and looking for BIOS updates. Some manufacturers, like Dell, have issued updated BIOSes that include USB support.

If you just copied the files from your USB drive onto a directory you set up using Microsoft Windows - you're way off base.

What you actually need to do is boot Ubuntu from your USB drive and then use the Ubuntu installer.
