There are 3 parts, for up to 800 points a piece. The average score is a little bit above 1500, like a 1530 or so. 1800+ would be a good score, unless you are applying to really selective colleges. There are technically 10 sections of the test, one of which is only an experimental section that they use for testing out new questions. It won't count into your score. The essay is the first, and then you will get two grammar sections, three math sections, three critical reading section, and the experimental section, which could be in math, writing/grammar, or critcal reading.

1500-1550 is an average score. You want to beat this score to get into most decent colleges. Anything over 1700 is a good, solid score, and anything over 1950 or so will get you into just about any school with an otherwise polished application. The average Harvard applicant is going to have about a 2050-2100, but otherwise I wouldn't worry about getting a score that high.

The SAT is scored by your raw score; you get points for each question answered correctly, and lose points for incorrect answers. They add up your total score for each section and then change it to a score on a scale of 200-800.

It relies upon on what you desire it for. probably you're asking, because you desire this information for entering into college. even in case your score is sturdy or no longer will matter on the particular college in which you have an interest. faculties oftentimes post the common scores of scholars who've been admitted to the college or who attend the college. So it may be terrific to envision those scores of faculties that are of interest to you.

2000 is a good score for a public college, and a 2200 is a good score for the more competitive ones. 1700 is generally the average score for the better state colleges.
