What do you make of the continued bickering and backstabbing in the Republican ranks since the election? There is another story by the Associated Press about how the rank and file and some defeated candidates are focusing their anger on the reelection campaign committee that failed to provide them with victory in November. The conservatives within the party consist of several different factions that will claw each other’s eyes out if they don't have an enemy to focus their energy on. Well, they are now starting to feed on each other. Maybe this will purge what once was a proud and respectable party of the right wing whackos that bear the lion’s share of the responsibility for the mess this great country is in. The members of the current White House administration aren't true republicans, the are wanna be dictators who will, fingers crossed, pay the price (personally and professionally) for the road they've lead us down.

Not only is the republican party out of touch with America they are out of touch with their own members. The true conservative republican party has been trashed by right wing religious zealots. Look at this board and some of your answers, have you ever seen such hatred? If you don't agree with this President and his administration, you're a commie terrorist loving person who hates America. I have said this before and I'll say it again. I think it is President Bush and his cronies who hate America.

It's has little to do with Republicans against Republicans, it's a conflict long in the making (at least 20 years) with the direction of conservatism itself.

The problem now is the ideological rift between wings in conservatism, that just can't get along anymore. There are three distinct wings -- Neo-Conservatism; Traditional Conservatism and Paleo-Conservatism. Currently there's a push to put Traditionals and Paleos under one umbrella, with heavy spinning that they're the same -- they are NOT the same, Traditionals are classical liberals and best defined as populists (i.e., like Lou Dobbs) and not religious nuts, where Paleos are conservatives who really wish to live under the ideals of the Old World religious states -- it's infused with ultra-orthodox crusaders and KKK idealists. Paleos are the right, right, where Traditionals are between Neos and Paleos, who are just best described as TR and Esienhower type conservatives.

This rift became very apparent in 2003 when the Iraq war was justified. Traditionals (that's Traditionals, not Paleos) questioned the justification of that war based on history -- avoid Empire and imperalist ideals, as that's the reason the USA was founded! As the war progressed the dissatisfaction became open in 2004, where Paleos abandoned the GOP for the Constitution or Libertarian parties, instead. Traditionals, meanwhile, tend to be independents as neither the GOP or the Constitution party is comfortable to them (i.e., they're not religious nuts; some are actually pro-abortion; they don't believe in giving any one branch of government more power; and strongly against using the Constitution as a way to take away citizen rights). Since all these conservatives can't ideologically agree, open ideological warfare ensued.

Traditionals and Paleos strongly disagree with Neo-Conservatives (ex-Commies and Reagan Democrats). Especially how the Neos hijacked the GOP, and destroyed the conservatism of our fathers. That the Neo-Con's founders were Communists and socialists it's a true divide, as Traditionals and Paleos are adamantly anti-Communist and anti-socialist.

This is nasty at face value, but in the long-term it's healthy. It's democracy in civil action, and it helps to educate the public that there's not just one face behind the GOP (or conservatism itself).

I have not seen a dog eat dog mentality in the Republican party, but there is an obvious divide between the Party leaders and the electorate. The Republican electorate believes in the traditional values of conservatism and most would say that they model themselves after the Reagan model. Party leaders however have not acted like true conservatives. The November election if nothing else was about sending a message on just how disenchanted the voters are. I don't believe the Republican party is doomed, but they must now try to reconnect with voters and their values. We will see what happens in the next 2 years.

right you are ken: While I agree with you that the extreme labelling against dissenting views is unnecessary and often inflamatory it is not limited to one side or the other. Ken you always leave me wondering if you see the depth of you own hypocrisy. I am not really trying to insult you, but rather point out that you are complaining about being called an America hater for your views while doing exactly the same thing towards the President and his advisors. It comes off sounding like the pot that called the kettle black. Try practicing what you preach and you might find that you recieve a different response to your views.

There is more turmoil in the Republican party than there has been in years. I think this is due to Republicans close to Bush falling out of favor. Too much corruption and incompetence were allowed to exist during Bush's term.

Let's just hope the result of all this sorting out is a return to conservative republican roots. Only the Republican vision is right for America!

not confident, (the Steele/Rush element very much surprised me although) i understand I basically were given extremely annoyed at a Democrat, and that i'm a Democrat. i imagine some human beings would nicely be getting drained of the rotten apples on both area that are making it worse than it desires to be. The race and faith insults are basically way too severe and uncalled for. that's getting previous.

Good! I hope they feed on themselves. We need the Republican party to disappear and be replaced by a new one that represents the people and what is good for the country.

YAWN, happened to Dems also, nothing to see really. Both parties are gearing up for 2008, you have just begun to see backstabbing and hateful rhetoric.

i agree that the party has been hijacked by an elite with an agenda to enrich themselves at the expense of "we the people". i also think that the harm they've done to the country will last longer than the troubles the party finds itself in, which is just ironic. Bush and his oilmen are deeply unamerican in the best sense of the word "american".

Funny!
The fighting & backstabbing among Republicans is trivial compared to what is going on within the Democrat Party.
(How did you miss that?)
The New Democrats ran as Conservative Republicans, and got elected.
Were they being honest?
Was it all a trick?
Are they for real, or just a commie plot?
Will they betray the people that voted for them?
Fun & Games ahead.
Don't you think that in-fighting on both sides is good? I do.
