Yes and no. Yes if you keep it easy. Start with chords. You'll be playing a song by the end of an hour. My first song, self taught in chords was 'Move It On Over" by George Thoroughgood. It is three easy to change chords, D, G, C.

That is the key, learn easy chords and find songs that have them, then add harder chords to your play list later.

Before this I tried to learn guitar three different times, without success. The first time I had long nails and broke one, that was the end of that. The second time my friend tried to show me and all we would do was fight. And the last time I tried a do-it-yourself book guitar lesson. It started with tuning and I ended up breaking a string and put it down again.

Finally I just sat down and did it, just like that. Never played a song before that and then boom, "Move Over Little Dog the mean ol' dog is comin in......"

Love my guitar, never give up.

Unless your a natural at playing any instrument a Guitar is not easy to learn. You need patience, dedication and lessons. I can't stress those three enough, especially lessons. Guitar playing involves hand and finger techniques that you will not master on your own. Playing without lessons will only develop bad habits and limit your playing ability. When you take lessons and truly understand how involved playing can be, you really start appreciate just how good artists like Neil Young are.

Don't be intimidated by what you read and shrug off the idea of playing if you're interested in it. It can be mastered by anyone, but only you control your own destiny.

If you can already read music, it's one less thing you have to learn. If you can't, then you're learning a couple of things and not just playing guitar.

I'm not finding it hard, but I can read music and I understand music theory.

It's more practice, practice, practice and getting my hands to stretch in the right shapes. I have "small" hands (per my instructor), and I decided to learn classical guitar, which has a wider neck (but of course). So, that causes me some issues occasionally.

I'm having a great time with it.

I started learning electric guitar about two years ago, and at first I found it pretty difficult. You really do have to practise lots and if you have a good teacher, that helps too (mine wasn't very good!). Start off with some easy chords, and then progress to harder stuff as you get better. But if you're dedicated, practise and really do want to learn, you'll really enjoy it. Hope this helps!

The guitar is the music of the 20th century. It contains hard work and practice. You can't just strum your fingers against the strings and say look at me i'm Jimi Hendrix. The guitar is hard. When you practice hard enough i'm sure you can be that musican you always wanted to be. Happy Holidays.

Hi, I've followed many online guitar courses. Without a shadow of doubt the best online training course (for all levels: beginners/intermediates/advanced) is this one http://www.goobypls.com/r/rd.asp?gid=554. It's by far the most complete online course available on earth.

No.
It takes work and dedication.
The basics are easy enough, but to play well and to really understand the instrument takes some effort.

Lessons from a qualified instructor speed up the process dramatically.
