On the 25th its the big day everyones been building up to for months and then just 1 week later its a different year, xmas seems months ago and its all back to the beginning starting another year of work.

Inbetween there's the strangest time of year of all from 26-31st when nobody seems to know what to do or what shops are open etc. Try asking someone on January 5th or later how long ago xmas was and i bet most people say a couple of months!

I seem to find it hard to keep a track of what day it is around christmas time i.e Christmas won't feel like a Monday this year,
Boxing day won't feel like Tuesday, and the end of December feels mixed up and a bit of a let down after all the anticipation of christmas!

It is remarkably weird that from 2nd January it's business as usual! It's grey and cold and there's not even christmas to look forward to! Bring on the Spring!

What I find strange is that in the church calendar, the run up to Christmas (ie 4 Sundays) is Advent - a time of preparation for Christ's coming (remembering the first Christmas) and his second coming - The End!!! It's a time of thinking of the Patriarchs of the Jewish faith (from whence Jesus came of course), John the Baptist (who prepared the way), his mother Mary. Christmas doesnt actually start in church properly until 25th December. The Christmas period lasts 12 days (remember the song, the 12 days of Chrsitams?) We celebrate Epiphany (the 3 wise men/magi/kings) on 6th January.
so when the rest of the world thinks its all over (Boxing day) we have only just begun.!!!! Except of course that we bend to public demand and as well as doing Advent stuff we also do carol services, nativity plays at school etc etc.
I'm sitting here, having just had a great Crib service in church about to do a communion in a hospital and then the midnight communion in church - and tomorrow morning the 10am communion with hopefully kids as well as adult singiing happy birthday to Jesus!! (yes I know he wasnt really born then b ut if the queen can have an official birthday as well as a real one, then so can Jesus)
Happy Chrsitmas to you all and may you know God's blessings and peace today and always. :-)

Well I really don't see why "next year" comes as a big surprise, we are after all rapidly approaching the end of an old year.
However, I agree that Christmas is a "timeless oasis" and it can be confusing to us mere creatures of habit.
Hope you have a relaxing and refreshing Christmas and Good Fortune in the New Year..

Our kin makes a Norwegian dish called Lefsa... that is large, kinda sounds like a crepe, made up of potatoes, butter, whipping cream and flour.. A dough is made, then rolled very skinny, then tossed onto a griddle... this turns into said brown, cooked ~ then that is positioned between 2 moist towels to relax, and the moisture makes it delicate back... that is one heck of an appetizer, you butter it, roll it up, slice it in peices... and Voila ... the wolves come... won't be able to seem to get sufficient of it... This kin custom is going all the in the previous to Norway.... and that is gouda... you need to upload some thing in it, roll it up from sweet to bitter i imagine, and love even if concoction you come back up with. they could't seem to get sufficient of it.. Google it... that's some thing, yet you stand for hours to practice... a large number of work to this one. yet so well worth it... whats up MM how is ya, and what's your well known *Christmass* custom? Love and hugs Kar

I don't find it strange, but i do find it's no where near as good as it used to be, people are to busy now to enjoy the time they can have with family, and friends
