Yes, the contraction hurts. The severity depends on your endurance to pain. My friends didn't feel the pain though it's there! But I DID and I couldn't take it as the contraction got closer. So I wanted ephidural. That REALLY helped! Natural delivery is the best! You'll get recovered faster than having a C-section. Hang in there.. you WILL make it. Think and imagine of your baby's face. The length of the delivery can't be predicted. Many factors contribute to it, such as the baby's position, your ability to push, etc. Don't worry, you'll be fine. If you're so scared of the pain, just ask for an ephidural. I was even half asleep when pushing my baby! Ha! But the delivery was fast enough, mostly bec I could push well bec I didn't feel the pain.

I was technically in labor for 37 hours with my first. However, I was only in pain for about 17 hours of it. I had a lot of things going on, pre eclampsia for one, that lead to my long labor. When I was given pain medication, which probably would have sped my labor up, it lowered my blood pressure. My baby was so used to me having high blood pressure, that he didn't like it when it was lower. The change was stressing the baby, so they stopped my labor, to let my pain medication wear off. I can remember telling my mother that I didn't want to do this anymore. I was not prepared for the fact, that I might not be allowed something for the pain. It probably didn't help that the nurses were treating me like an idiot. They were trying to tell me that I still had medication, and it was working, so therefore, I couldn't be in pain. I learned the truth talking to my doctor later. Yes, it hurt, but I think it was the fact that I wasn't in control anymore, that made me want to quit. I had educated women telling me that I wasn't in pain, when I clearly was, and it just wasn't right. I spent so much time trying to convience them that something wasn't right, that I forgot to try to relax and tolerate it as best I could. My little boy did eventually make is appearance. He was perfect, and he's now 7. I've heard of women that opt out for c-sections, because they're scared of the pain. Well, I've had two natural births and one c-section. Like I mentioned before my first labor was 37 hours long. But here's the thing, when you're done, you're done. It's over! If you need stitches, your bottom will be sore for about a week, but pain? The second you hold your baby, you forget about the pain. With a c-section, you have a recovery period. The first time you stand up, you're reminded that you just had surgery. I would choose a vaginal delivery anyday! That way you're done. With a c-section, it's a good two weeks before you're yourself again. (P.S. It should be noted that I am not opposed to c-sections. When they're the safest route to go, then that's what should be done. It's just my opinion.)

I think a majority of mom's get tired and want to quit. I was in labor for 18 hours with my first child and by the end when it was time to push I was tired. With my second child she got stuck and was also 9 pounds so ya I wanted to give up but a person has no choice.

I wanted to quit. After nearly 28 hours, I was exhausted. My vagina also hurt and I was burning up. But I got through the last stretch by having some nurses keep me cool with cold washcloths and holding my hands. They told me to take a few deep breaths. 10 minutes later, my 9-lb son finally emerged. Hopefully, my labor won't be as long this time (it will be my second).

I was begging for a c-section...but of course I managed to push the little booger out. I am so much more fearful this time then with my first....I keep telling myself it has to be better the second time.
Just keep telling yourself its temporary....and unlike some pain you get a prize at the end of labor!
how long?? 20 hrs of labor and 3 hours of pushing...she came out face up so it made for and extended pushing phase.

Of course there are. It is a painful thing to give birth. The longer you are in labor, they more likely you will want to quit in the middle. I got through mine, most people get through theirs else we wouldn't have such a problem with overpopulation...
