I have all three. Hamsters sleep lots so if it is for children they will rarely see it. Rabbits are lovely and easy to handle, I don't recomend the dwarf varieties for children especially the males as they are extremely terratorial and can be aggressive. Guinea Pigs are delightful.
All need regular exercise, fruit, veg and clean water. Pigs prefer to live in twos and of course should be the same sex. Most Hamsters prefer the solitary life.
Hope this helps

Guinea pigs and hamsters are small enough they must be kept in a cage all the time so you don't lose them. A rabbit, on the other hand, can be brought out and allowed to hop around some, and be carried around and petted. So when you ask about playing or fun, if you mean an ability to touch them, a rabbit would be best.
On the other hand, hamsters are small enough to fit in the Habitrail, if they are still making those. In the 1980s, you could buy hard plastic components that snapped together to make a maze of spaces for your hamster or mouse. These can be a great deal of fun, and if they are still being made, I might be sorely tempted to set one up and watch the hamster have his fun exploring. Get enough tunnels and tubes, and you can literally make a maze the size of your whole room.

Please be careful about what you chose. Remember this is a long commitment for parents rather than children as kids will get bored quite quickly and if parents aren't prepared to look after the pets, the pets end up in rescues and may be passed through many different families which is unkind to the animal. Hamsters live for up to 2 years, guineas 5 and rabbits 8. Hamsters don't need vaccinations or neutering if a single, guineas and rabbits need to be in neutered pairs and although guineas, do not need to be neutered if kept in single sex pairs, bunnies do, as boys will fight and girls wll get uterine cancer at age 5+. Hamsters are great fun if you have a good cage with lots of tunnels, balls, and toys and kids love getting tunnels and can build a lovely maze for them. Guineas need a large cage, 3' X 18 inches and access to a good run and must have lots of fresh food every day. Rabbits, need to be housed in a hutch 5' x 2' and a run 6' 3' and must be annually vaccinated, neutered and have nails and possibly teeth clipped regularly, must also have 'run' time for a good length of the day. Hope this helps. Do lots of research before getting an animal to prevent disappointment. Good luck. Merry Christmas.

I have had all 3 and find that guinea pigs are the best out of the 3. Hamsters dont' live very long and this can be upsetting particularly if you lose one after the other! Guinea pigs are happy indoors or out and love chasing around the front room which we love to watch! They also interact more by squeaking when they want food or hear the fridge door open! Good luck!

I've had all three. In terms of playing, rabbits are best. With my rabbit, we'd get a little blanket, and we'd pretend she's a bull, and she'd act like one. It was really fun! She'd run right through it. :D
For caring, hamsters are definitely easiest. They have the smallest cage to clean, just fill their water and food bowl, and play with them. For fun, they were all the same amount of fun.
we could do games with the rabbit, the guinea pig would follow us everywhere, and the hamster just was so sweet. Right now, I have a chinchilla, and I'd have to say, I'm sorry other pets, but they're much better!

I've had each pet, and it all depends on how much time you're willing to spend with them. Some hamsters can be very lively and playful (at night), but as they age they become less so (especially as they have a short life-span). To be honest, rabbits don't really do all that much (just eat and hop about a bit), and can also be quite bad-tempered. G.Ps are about as playful (or playless, ha) as rabbits, but are a bit more friendly. So, if you want a more playful pet, I would suggest getting a hamster. Unfortunately, for hamsters, they can require quite a few toys (hamster ball, tunnels, etc). If you get a hamster that is quite aggressive, they can be disciplined, when they bite, with a flick/tap on the nose (believe me, this works!).

My kids have had all 3 and I think the hamsters are easiest to care for and easiest to play with. Other people will prefer the guinea pigs or rabbits.

I'd go with either the rabbit or the cavy (guinea pig). Just as a precaution though, they both do poo...bunches! If you don't like the idea of changing a gross cage once or twice a week, go with the hamster.
Rabbits seem to have more personality, but cavies make cool noises. My guinea pigs are actully cleaner than my rabbit was.

I'd say guninea pig. The hamsters will bite you and rabbits claw. I had a rabbit as a child and I hated it. I had to keep it outside in a pen and when I let it out to work on the pen Snowball always clawed my arms up bad trying to get it back into the cage. It's always better to have a pet you can easily have inside so you can give them the attention they need and deserve.

Hi,
Oh, I'd say out of the three, a rabbit.
Well my hamster only lived for about three years, well fed & cared for, poor thing, but looking after "Biscuit", my neices rabbit when they were on hols, proved an uplifting experience.
My fairground golfish, George, also perished, but the dog, Gandolf the boxer, is now 14, and a splendid critter that jumps off the boat chasing ducks. Never catches up with one !
My lizard, a Gekko called Marlon, is staring down at me as I type.
My freind has a guinea-pig, and complaind that it sh*t on his keyboard.
All the best of festives,
Bob.
