What is the importance of year 2007? Have they named (dedicated) 2007 for some cause?

It is the General Assembly of the United Nations that designates international years. Some years have more than one designation - 2001, 2002 and 2005 had three each. Currently we are fast approaching the end of 2006, the International Year of Deserts and Desertification. Almost appropriately enough, this seems to have caused a drought in designations, as 2007 has none. However, do not despair, because 2008 is ..... wait for it ..... the International Year of The Potato - I kid you not.
