through one of those organizations like Christian Childtrens Fund, how does that work? Do they send you photos of the child so you can see the progress through the years, or just a one time snap-shot? Or is it some kinda rip-off?

From what i have heard, a pecentage (under 50%) goes to the kids.
I was told tha they send you A photo of the child and a letter every now & then telling you the progress of the child (from the child).
To be honest there is doubt that the letters are written by the child.

It is definitely not a rip off. I've sponsored several children through children.org, and they are great.
You get photos and letters, and I even send gifts directly to the child's field office.
It is a great expierence!!!
