A program that controls a device. Every device, whether it be a printer, disk drive, or keyboard, must have a driver program. Many drivers, such as the keyboard driver, come with the operating system. For other devices, you may need to load a new driver when you connect the device to your computer. In DOS systems, drivers are files with a.SYS extension. In Windows environments, drivers often have a.DRV extension.
A driver acts like a translator between the device and programs that use the device. Each device has its own set of specialized commands that only its driver knows. In contrast, most programs access devices by using generic commands. The driver, therefore, accepts generic commands from a program and then translates them into specialized commands for the device.

computer driver:

1. A person who drives a computer

2. A computer that is delivered by a driver

3. A hardware device (typically a transistor) that provides signals or electrical current to activate a transmission line or display screen pixel. See line driver.

4. Also called a "device driver," it is a program routine that links the operating system to a peripheral device. Written by programmers who understand the peripheral hardware's command language and characteristics, the driver contains the precise machine language necessary to perform the functions requested by the application.

No if you choose the option, install windows NTFS without "any changes" And of course, if you DON'T delete the partition you are actually using. 1. Just put the windows cd on the reader 2. Boot the computer 3. Press del button or F2 to get into the BIOS 4. Look for Booting options, generaly is on the second menu on most BIOS, put CD ROM in the three options of booting (allthough some BIOS boot up the CD actually without setting this up). 5. The screen says press any key to begin automatically. 6. Wait till the blue screen appears. (if its windows xp) 7. Press F8 8. Choose install windows (you can choose repair too, which is faster) 9. If you chose install, don't delete or create new partitions, just press enter to begin installing. 10. The next window ask you to press L to delete the my documents folder (you should have moved up its content to other folders before installing windows). Press L 11. The next window ask the last important step here, "install without any changes" this is the fourth option of four. And this is what you must choose, if you choose the others, ¡you will loose your files! . Now you are done, the process is automatic and very simple with this few instructions i gave you. P.D.: Just in case, reinstall your video card drivers, if you don't know so much to setting up your windows desktop. But if you wish, you just need to use your mouse right button over the desktop and choose properties, and then you are face to face with appearance where you can change your icons size, etc, etc. I hope you succed.

immm., nothing like that.. if only computer uses files to control devices like printer, we say printer driver. only these files help printer to understand from computer what needs to be printed, how to print.. what page setting..etc.

likewise all interfacing devices have driver files..
