Yes, you can experience cold weather in Australia; but it is different from the US. The thing tourists must remember is that the seasons are reversed from the Northern Hemisphere. July is the coldest month, January the hottest. Most of Australia is a warmer climate than you may be used to. And dryer, although they have experienced unprecendented rains in recent years setting new records, and causing major flooding (global warming? ).

As far as snow goes, you would have to go to the highest mountains in Australia to experience it in Australia (probably in the Island of Tasmania way to the South of the main body of the continent.) For example, Sydney, the major seaport, has not recorded snow since 1830 !
