I would say ignored, because they don't deserve the time of day.

I've usually dealt with bullies by confronting them head on. Because a bully is out of line and in the wrong he cannot defend his position morally or with honor. Usually he will evade a real fight. The problem is distinguishing a bully from a person that has no sense of honor or conscience. Stalin, and Saddam Hussein are my best examples. With such, one needs to utterly crush them with overwhelming force and not relent when they back off to come back at you on another day. Actually, Al Quaida is a better example. President Bush is doing the wise thing. Time and wisdom will reveal that he is fighting a war on two fronts against two enemies. 1. Muslim extremists within and outside the country. 2. An unexposed enemy that has been successful in undermining the foundations of the United States and manipulating naive Americans to oppose those that protect them. Keep in mind that one can have a doctorate and a high IQ and still be naive. The second enemy is the more difficult to rout. It has a global agenda even more evil than Al Quaida. If your spouse, male or female, is a bully then my advice does not apply.

You should confront them head on at an early stage. Do not ignore them as the problem will never go away. I was bullied all through my school life and it was only when I left school and stood up to one that I realised how different my life would have been had I done this earlier. Living in fear as a child or an adult because of a bully can make one physically and mentally sick. The best thing to do is show them up in front of others.

I'm a big believer in the school of discipline to be quite honest. If they can get away with something, they will. Face the problem head on. If the parents are not interested, it's time for a restraining order, or perhaps a drastic change of school (if this is in a KS3 setting). Hope this helps.

You cannot ignore bullies, if you are in their bull-mind. you cannot face them head on, since usually you are one while they are a 'group'. I think you have to ask for the authorities' help, but then you have to hope the authorities will do something to help you, since sometimes they close their eyes and ignore the problem.

Bullies commonly do this because of problems in life that they can't solve. They bully others to find satisfactory in their life.
Bullies who hurts others by words should be ignored. They would get tired and probably live others alone.
Bullies who hurts others physically should be taken care of. Ask for parental advice. They don't need to be shy. If it still keep up, they need to stand up for themselves, learn to fight back. Bullies pick on the weak one and less popular.

It's gonna depend on circumstances and your personality.
If you have a Bonobo-type personality you'll try and avoid conflict at all reasonable costs unless your cornered or your kids are getting bullied, then you'd take the bully head on.
But if you're from the ancestral line of chimpanzee that's non-Bonobo you're far more aggressive in nature and far more likely to stand up for yourself by taking the bully head on at the first or second opportunity.
To find out what this Human/Bonobo link is to our personality traits, Google Bonobo or go here:

...it's a fascinating subject area. Thanks for Asking:))

what type of bully? it just depends on the situation, the typical schoolyard bully should be clocked in the jaw and sip through a straw for a month. workplace bullies should be got back at with wordplay or in otherwords using your head to let them know you wont be messed with, without jeopardizing your job at the same time. these people may actually come to respect you or they may just be bitches.
teenagers riding by in cars and other randoms with smart comments and saying random garbage should be unloaded on with a spas-12 automatic shotgun

If it weren't for all the do-gooders poking their two-pennorth in all the time, we could give these bullies a clout round the ear each time they were caught trying to be so big. That's the only way they'd learn. A taste of their own medicine is always good!
Happy Christmas!
