I'm not sure what level of genetics you are talking, but if this is high school level, a good topic would be the appearance of recessive genes after generations.
It's an interesting topics, because it can explain how two brown haired, brown eyed parents can have a blonde haired, blue eyed baby, or how two caucasian parents can have a mullato looking child if there was an african ancestor anywhere in their family history.

You could write your report on STD's or something along that line.
