In the hospital
PJ's (gown with front access, if you are nursing)
Cheap cotton underwear (granny panties, make sure they are high enough so that if you have a c-section it won't touch your incision, trust me you'll wear your thong again, just not now)
Your own pillow
Plastic flip flops (for shower shoes)
Rubber bands
Bobby pins
Socks with grippers on the bottom or slippers
Hoodie (it gets cold in the hospital)
Camera
Cell phone (make sure you charge it and increase the minutes if you are already close to your max., I went over like 150 min the month my son was born)
Baby care kit (you'll need to clip the baby's nails once he/she is born, the hospital won't do it)
Boppy
Always maxi pads (the thin super long ones) the hospital has maxi pads but they are huge, uncomfortable and they don't absorb as well as Always, you don't want accidents.
Toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, soap, tooth brush, tooth paste, lotion)
Steal the booger sucker outer from the hospital, those work the best!
Going Home
Car Seat (Cold climate, you may want to purchase a Bundle Me Bunting for the car seat)
Nursing Bra
Sweat pants and t-shirt (don't try and be cute, just comfy)
Comfy outfit for your baby
Tennis shoes (if your foot will fit, otherwise I wore my slippers home)
Receving blanket
Baby Album (So they can put the baby's footprints in that while they are doing that already on the birth certicicate)
Good Luck and Congrats!!!

A onesie, a going home outfit, a car seat with a cover or some blankets and a hat. They will advise you to not put the baby in the car seat wearing a snowsuit or coat because then the straps won't hold him or her securely enough. They'll let you take the extra stuff (like diapers) that they've brought into the room for you to use in the hospital so unless it's a really long drive home you won't need any extras.

You will need.... A lot of stuff!! Take in newborn nappies, a couple of baby grows, a couple of vests, a little hat, scratch mittens (these are essential! take two pairs!) wet wipes. Check with your maternity ward as you may need to take in your own formula if you are not going to breast feed. Some baby bath as some wards don't supply this, a nice soft fluffy towel as hospital ones aren't that great and then you will need everything else you can think of plus the kitchen sink just to be on the safe side lol
P.s don't forget about what you will need! Breast pads, heavy duty period pads(!) disposable knickers (these are a must if you ask me!) plenty of easy to change nightwear, a good book (baby's sleep alot first day) change for the phone and wash stuff

I brought a stack of magazines, a couple of changes of clothes like comfy sweats and pajamas, slippers or socks, my own toothbrush, toothpaste and purse/money. Going home outfit for the baby or fancy one if you are taking pictures. Everything else is supplied by the hospital or you're probably not going to use it anyway. If you have a c-section, someone to stay at least the first night with you. If you have a vaginal delivery, you can send dad home to sleep (if you want).
Most people bring way, way too much in my opinion, giant duffel bags sit there most stuff unused - and when they do need something they can never find it.

Most hospitals provide clothes and diapers during your stay. You'll need a couple diapers, and an outfit or two. They're not going to let you leave without your carseat. My advice is to put that in the car now. That way you're not worrying about it last minute. It's winter time, so you'll need to take a couple blankets to keep baby warm from the hospital to the car. If you're going to bottlefeed, you'll need to take those, and a pacifer, if you choose.
For yourself, I suggest underwear. That crap they give you at the hospital is disgusting. Trust me, you'll feel better in something brought from home. You'll need something to wear home. I strongly suggest maternity clother, something loose and comfortable is best. Maybe something to put your hair back up in. Bring shampoo and conditioner, that first shower is heaven. AND DON'T FORGET YOUR CAMERA!!! Best of Luck!

This may sound a little strange, but I wish that someone had suggested it to me before I went in to hospital: a floatie. I'm not sure what you guys call it, it's an inflatable ring that kids use in pools. I was pretty torn up after giving birth, and the only way I could breastfeed properly was sitting up all the way. Sitting up was quite painful, a pillow kind of helped, but it still hurt a lot. I really could have used a floatie, but suddenly every shop in town was out of them. The second time around I was prepared, and brought a floatie with me.
I got a few strange looks, but it was definitely worth it :-)

For yourself, bring:
toothbrush and toothpaste, chap stick (you'll do a lot of mouth-breathing in hard labor), your favorite soap for a shower afterward, a change or two of clothes (use sweats or other elastic waisted clothing since you won't know how your clothes will fit after the birth, hair brush, blow dryer, etc. Also bring things you might like in labor, like music, massage tools, and things your partner might need while you're laboring (if you get an epidural, he might like a book to read while you rest).
For the baby:
a few outfits, a swaddling blanket, the carseat (hopefully it's already installed- do that now!), a camera for those first moments, booties, olive oil (works great on the booty after a diaper change, helps clean off the mechonium), a bunting and hat for cold weather.

For the baby all you will need is a going home outfit and maybe a blanket or two. Also make sure you have the carseat. Everything else the hospital will provide for your little one. Good Luck and congrats! Merry Christmas

Nappies and changing stuff, babygros and vests, a car seat (to bring him/her home in the car) and warm snowsuit etc for him/her to wear when coming home.
Thats it.
For you: nightwear, washbag with all your toiletries and makeup - hairbrush, hair ties etc, something to come home in (clothes), books, magazines etc to keep you entertained during your stay, maternity pads (like supersized sanitary pads, you will bleed a lot after the birth), maybe nursing bra and breast pads if you plan on staying three days or more.
Also a handheld fan for labour and also afterwards - the hospitals are so warm, I found it hard to sleep!
