FORMER POINT: I know several people which believe in the philosophy that sometimes products which don't sell deserve to do.

LATTER POINT: Do my friends deserve to have their heads screwed off?

It sure appears to be the case in a lot of areas.
There are many monopolistic businesses in every country.
If they don't crush them they just buy them out and absorb them into yet a bigger conglomerate.
There are thousands of examples of this.
Your friends have a point, but if the product is a good one some (bigger) company will raid it and have the money and distribution system to make it a best seller.
Still, many big companies started with just one guy and one product or service. It still can be done.

Business is truly a "cut throat" world. All business competing for customer dollars. So yes big business does try their best to conspire with big government to keep the little guy out.. or at least down.

But big businesses need to understand they are at the mercy of investors. When the investors get tired of milking the profits of say Wal-Mart they will drop them, by selling out and just walking away. And then go invest in some new and up coming venture.. leaving Wal-Mart to die a slow and agonizing death. With millions of people wondering, "what happened?"

Study the failures of, Woolworths, Montgomery Wards, Grants, next to fail Sears and Kmarts.

Given enough time Wal-Mart should eventually fail also. Investors are the ones who make the real long term difference. By making or breaking a corporation.

Everything is in a state of constant transition. Some going up some coming down.

Thanks for an intriguing question.

P.S. What does this mean?

Let's see what happens with the legislation concerning Net Neutrality, and then we'll all know.

If you're a little guy, and if the legislation goes through, chances are your website will never, ever be seen again by anyone other than yourself, as only the big companies that can afford the fees will have the rights to use the "first-tier" bandwidth on the world wide web.

There is no 'conspiracy' -

Big Business does not give a s**t about the 'small guy' - sure they will support anything that gives them an 'edge' (such as Patents and Copyright) but they are too busy keeping an eye on their competitors to worry about the thousands of 'small guys' trying to get a toe hold in the same market.

Of course, as soon as the small guy starts to get big enough to be noticed, Big Business may well start to look for ways to sue for Patent/Copyright infringement etc.

RE: 'Deserve' = no-one 'deserves' anything - you have to go out & get it (or take action to avoid it) for yourself.

If it is good and worthy...when it reaches a point in what is known as the Bell Curve...they are often bought out...depending on whether the buyer thinks he can improve and run with it to make a profit. Much like IBM.

well no but sales people be it consultants as they are better known should be trained properly to reduce failiure. If the product is not doing so well its hardly their fault so then its back to the drawing board.

Sales productivity is not determined by how people sell it alone, its success rates depend upon interest.

Not really, nothing will succeed unless people know about it and appreciated it to its full potential. With that in mind; unless you have sold the idea to a large company who can afford to market the product or you can gain corporate/private sponsorship for a large marketing/advertising campaign, the idea/product will be dead before its born.

Anything can be sold with the right advertising so, yes, stuff that doesn't deserve to be made ends up being a best-seller. (witness the Christmas singing fish and all that rubbish ... people buy it).
Re. big business - dunno, I never worry my gorgeously fluffy head about that.
Re. latter point about your friends - yes, screw their heads off and take a video please, so we can all see.
Merry Christmas!!

of course it does, why allow competition either from lower prices or alternatives?
