I want to find a simplistic guide to setting up my own website. In particular, I need a reference on the web which provides advice on software available and its options.

First of all you will need to know HTML if you plan on having a professional site. Next, you will need somewhere to host your site. I suggest ATSPACE. . . Yahoo sitebuilder has a great program for setting up websites. It's easy to learn and use. I use it.
