I did some googling and I came across Baroque architecture. But on another site i read different names such as neo-classical, baroque, indo-portuguese and modern.

Please guide me - I need to know
1. Which churches fall under which category?
2. What are the characteristics of each style?
3. How are these styes different?

I'll be visiting Goa shortly and I'd like some information before I go... I could only get information on Baroque so far. Please help

I looked up portuguese style and there's no typical style associated with that as Portugal has had many styles of architecture right from the Baroque days to the modern times....they all have different names. So if you're referring to Portuguese style - please state which portuguese style or the architectural features...

This is required for a research project and i'm finding a hard time getting the basic background information required to frame a hypothesis

They are all in the Portuguese style , I know THAT. All the older churches are very portuguese in style. I was in Goa 5 weeks ago . They looked very like the old churches of Portugal.

If you want to see a really beautiful Portuguese church ( and I presume you are intereted in architecture) then get up to a place caklled Siolem ( it's right on the touristy main drag) and you will see a very beautiful church indeed.

There are also many churches in the very same style in Luanda , Angola. From the Portuguese occupation, obviously.

I take it you mean "christian" churches, incidentally. The ones I saw in Goa were all very European in style. There is also a town called "Old Goa" which has some astonishingly beautiful old churches ( cathedrals maybe) which you need to look at.

Oh and something else. Take some British pound and 50 pence coins with you. They are a VERY popular tip , especially at the airport . Mainly because they represent about a week's wages to these people.

Goan churches will be indo-portugese as Goa was inhabited by the Portugese until the sixties, there are some interesting churches, one in Panaji (Panjim) and the Basilica in Old Goa.
