Field marketing needs you to physically go into the market yourself and introduce/promote/sell your products - at the same time also gather feedbacks on market information such as what your competitors are offering, etc.
Other companies might have different ways of interpretation, but that is what I have been engaging my staff for in the area of chemicals.
