I purchased a New Mitsubishi lancer 2007 GLX (Gulf specification) which got repair during rain when water entered Engine during rainy days (Reason is Air Inlet port is very access to easy entry of water and it enters to engine very easily compared to other brands Like Toyota, Nissan, Dhaihatsu where the Air Inlet manifold is given in the side where there is no chance of entering water and the risk is very low)

Now on giving for repair in Mitsubishi showroom, I was informed that all parts in Engine got bend or damaged due to entry of rain water and as a whole the complete engine has to be overhauled.

Now the cost of repair is 8000 AED / (2000 USD)

Also Mitsubishi is facing very shortage of spare parts for 2007 model cars
So becoz of poor design and low quality spare parts, I believe the Mitsubishi lancer 2007 GLZ is a failure in Middle east region.

Best i can find shows the cars are essentially designed the same for all regions. The main difference is interior options, colour choices, and emissions requirements.

Because of the hot weather in UAE, the intake air system is designed with a cold air intake trunking which faces the radiator grill. This is the reason why water is seeping into the intake air system when it is raining. the good point about this design is the induction of cold air into the intake system because cold air is more dense & it produces faster throttle response in the engine.

If you're interested in protecting your engine intake system from rain water, invest in a quality filter such as KNN drop in filter. For a foolproof method, change your air filter to a open pod filter. Any brand will do. Simota, KNN, Apexi, etc. But changing to a open pod filter will result in more engine noise & sluggish throttle response during hot weather. While on the other hand, open pods are designed for maximum air intake. For high revolution use.

For your information, open pod filters are meant for turbocharged cars. Because turbocharged cars comes with a intercooler to cool down intake air.
