I agree with Boomer, Knighthoods should be given to couragous men or women(dames) who have served there country or endured selfless acts of bravery, nowaday's any footballer or pop star who spouts about world poverty, but at the same time are multi millionaires, can get a knighthood.

The reason for the knighthood seems more to do with helping fund the Labour Party than ridding Africa of poverty. Most UK newspapers lambaste Bono and a lot of people are not happy about it.

In the real world, a knighthood is earned following a lifetime of good deeds and works, usually out of the limelight. The real heroes are often unknown to us until they are knighted and then we find out they've been working flat out for 30 years or more helping others or doing great things on behalf of the nation.

Well apart from the musical talents he has, he's also contributed big time to raising awareness and cash for a lot of starving people. I don't know whether you know this or not but Bono has been around for a long time. Some of his earlier songs have stormed the charts so obviously some people like him. Just because you don't like his music doesn't give you the right to spout off about why he is being given this honour. There are those that think he is worthy of this honour. He is going to get it and there is nothing you can do about it.

i imagine he might want to not feel embarrassment about himself. The queeen should be ashamed for not nonetheless accepting the irish thoroughly. Bono won't be able to call himself sir basically because he's Irish, wich i imagine is discrimination. For Bono that is a popularity to what he did and that i imagine he should be feeling honoured, wich he porbably felt like and nonetheless feels.

I'll admit that his philanthropic stuff is awesome, and at the beginning of their career U2 put out some good songs, but by God Bono is a %$^$(insert whatever you want). Does he think he's a member of Led Zeppelin or something... or does he actually think that U2 is that cool? Because it's not.

Sorry Brits, but you're getting way too metro-sexual. Knighthood is something that should be reserved for warriors. As it was in the beginning.

Considering that many stars & important people have the power to be in the limelight, with millions of adoring fans following their every word, they are the best people to bring the many plights suffered in the world today. Consider that politicians, not only are they boring, but also try to cover the problems faced worldwide, many people are just not interested in hearing from them. However, pop stars are listened by millions, and they should bring these problems to the fore, as they know that their fans are going to listen to them. I admire Bono for bringing all these issues to them. And also admire any stars who use their position to bring these problems to the fore. I'd rather listen to them than politicians. Weldone Bono. Conratulations on this Knighthood, and please conitnue with the good work you are carrying out. NOt only musically, but also with raising awareness on these and other issues. And to other stars, you all have the power to get the public behind important issues. Use them wisely

I don't care for the music, I don't know much about his personality, but anybody that helps feed starving people gets my vote. Nobody's perfect, but what if you had been born a starving person? Would you feel different about him if he gave you something to eat?
