If you received a christmas gift from someone first, do you feel inclined to reciprocatea?

these are the people you didn't know they would be sending you a gift.

I'm asking about what would you do, I'm not asking for advice.

i DO feel inclined to give a gift as well. but i try to have a gift ready "just in case". if i don't have one readily available...i don't bother because others haven't done the same for me, and if i give them a gift a day or more after they give me their gift, it would look tacky. usually, i'll just wait until the next year, and then get them something.

one year, my husband and i managed to get EVERYONE a gift with the little money we had. then, even my own brothers, who have good careers mind you, didn't get us crap. it's the thought, right? well, it was a family christmas so it's not like we "surprised" them by being there. so the next year we figured we'd just save money and not buy stuff for everyone-including them...but we figured they'd be buying us something that year for sure...NOPE...diddly squat. kinda makes a person feel unimportant, huh?

when i was about 8 years old...i had some money and i was trying to get everyone i know a gift. i bought my uncle and his girlfriend a gift. they always stop by after the rest of the family has left on christmas...after all of their family stuff is over,too. i gave them their gift. they gave my parents their gift. nothing for sarah. what kind of people go to someone's house with a gift for the adults and nothing for their 8 year old??!!

kinda bursts the christmas spirit of a child.

As the cliche goes, a gift must be heartily given. Thus, if you had no plans of giving a gift in the first place, but you feel compelled to do so just because you received one, then better not do it at all.

On the other hand, if it bothers your conscience, then go ahead and reciprocate. It's the season of giving, after all.

I told a person that their gift was in my apartment, and I forgot it there after they gave me a gift. Another person I told the gift was in the mail. Later that day I went to walmart to try to find two good gifts. I felt kind of bad, but I had no idea they were going to give me a gift. It never even occured to me at all.

you ought to have seen the object on the Yahoo homepage. I convey at the same time Boyd's bears and that i think of they seem to be a techniques from cheesy and he or she reported that any one over 8 would not have a crammed animal series. ;-) i'm offended via that! lol. certainly, the only cheesy presents are those i'm getting each and every year from my credit union financial business enterprise when I renew my Christmas club. this is oftentimes some much less costly ornament made in China.

So someone gives you a gift that you didn't expect - it has already happened to my partner twice. Well, each year my family and I bake cookies and put them in Christmas tins to give out for those acquaintances that we are not close enough to know their preferences and to reciprocate for those such individuals. We've not had anyone turn us down yet. They say that it's the thought that counts, others count calories, but in the end it shows you at least had them in mind this holiday.

I usually feel I HAVE to reciprocate. Then again...if they aren't on my list (and my list is huge) then I'd have to question why they thought of doing that in the first place?

if i didn't know they were sending it, and they sent it to me, i don't think i'd give them something back. a thank-you card is a polite gesture.
