I've read all of the previous answers, and frankly they're a load of rubbish. The answer is simple...

Love is blind; but LUST has 20-20 vision. End of story.

Looks are important. Even animals are picky about looks, otherwise why do some have to fight over their mates? :) i think it is natural to desire someone you are attracted to physically. every one has a different idea of beauty. Let's be honest. Love is not blind unless both people in love are literally blind.

Sadly society encourages looks to be considered above all else and some people become so desensitized that they don't even consider talking to those whom they consider to be less than perfect. In answer to your question love is blind is the same as looking through rose colored glasses when you love someone you can often be blinded to their faults and so become shocked and disillusioned when you realize who you love isn't the person you first believed them to be, that's part of the initial stages of a relationship, however you should always try to look beyond the merely physical and through the rose colored glasses and accept that this person whom you love isn't perfect but is special or you wouldn't have loved them in the first place.

You have it all backwards.. Looks ARE important, and then your love for that person becomes blind. Make sense?

See, when you are attracted to someone you are seeing physical features which tell you they are healthy and fit. Why is that important? Because your instincts tell you that you want your children to be healthy, fit and attractive so that your blood line will go on and on.

So, once you are attracted to someone and fall in love.. Your love becomes unconditional(blind).

In today's world what we view as "fitness" has changed due to influences from society. An attractive woman in today's capitalistic society is far from being the most fit for reproduction or survival. Paris Hilton or Rosie O'Donnell? (Tough choice huh?)
Men who have more money are more fit right? Well actually if you look at it as far as survival -it is true. A man that is in better shape physically may not be as fit (i.e. provide the best chances for survival) as one who is financially fit and can afford to live in a safer area, drive safer vehicles, afford better medical care... well you get the idea.

Maybe falling in love isn't blind, but once you're in love you become blind.

attaction is a personal thing; what one person finds attractive leaves another person cold. Plus sometimes the attaction is the other person's personality (or wallet, or social status) So at least sometimes, love is blind
