I don't know why people want to wait till the baby is born to be surprised. When you find out on the ultrasound, you will be surprised then. And then you have time to buy clothes, pick out names, redecorate, etc.

I found out with my first two children. Now I am 38 weeks pregnant with my third and we decided to not find out because we want a suprise. Sure it is annoying not knowing what colour to buy or decorate, but it is also really exciting not knowing. Beside, the nuetral colours that are around now are very pleasent looking.

I seriously do not know how some people can wait! Good for them i guess, but i wanted to know ASAP and I dont think that I will ever not wnt to know. Its just easier to have a name ready, decorate, buy clothes and things...I just couldnt stand my child not having a name. I had this weird feeling even before i found out that it was a girl and just started calling her Alison. It stuck.

To make it a pleasant surprise for all family members, DONT. As in a movie, you dont want to know how it ended even before you watch it.
For practical purposes though, you should know it beforehand so by the time he/she comes out...you have the appropriate baby dress, toys, room decor.
But I think you will know it whether you like it or not during a compulsary pre-natal check-up.

I knew I was having a girl with my daughter from the beggining. My cousin knew she was having a boy. My cousin never had an ultrasound and I knew before I had mine and I told the tech it was girl, of course she looked at me funny but I said I am sure its a girl and she was. Anyways don't find out if you don't want to, it iwll be more exciting...

Don't do it! I know it is tempting but it is much better with the surprise at the end.
As for the room - redecorate with something neutral.

why not take the chance wait.make every pregnacy different . you know what to expect and not to expect so it should be a cool thing to wait. but one the other hand its hard for the family to buy things and that's always a help. baby shower and all. so i think that if you plan the baby shower and baby games for after the baby is born u should be all right...it would be different i think u should wait..good luck and congrat on whatever decision u make..let me know though

Sometimes its a good thing. My husband and I wanted to know the sex of our baby. They said it was a girl, we went out and got everything for a girl, and we had a boy.. Mind you we got a sonogram 3 different times! So sometimes its good, to be prepared.. but only God knows what your going to have in the end!

My man and i are opting to be surprised, the suspense is killing me, but as long as you have some neutral coloured onesies and the such for the baby, you can always buy stuff later, and a newborn im sure doesnt care if their room is pink or blue...as long as they have a clean diaper and a full belly...lol. i think waiting is a good idea...even though it is hard.

It's a personal choice. I, too, wanted to know with my daughter so I could start preparing and buy neccessities. There's always that disclaimer in there though...the ultrasound isn't 100% accurate.
