I predict that the most common answer is going to be FFVII. And I have to say that, thats mine, and 10 is following right behind it.

Final Fantasy Tactics. It was a really great game. Good story, and I loved the fighting style. Final Fantasy Tactics Advance is a different story. That one kinda sucked IMO.
I'm probably gonna get killed by someone for saying this, but I don't care much for FFVII. It was okay, but I don't think it deserved the pedestal it was placed on.

Final Fantasy 4 (called 2 in the US) for the old school and Final Fantasy 7 and 9 for CD Generation and 10 and 12 for DVD generation. But overall I liked 10 the most...7 is over-rated.

My personal favorite was 8. I absolutely loved the story line and the graphics were great (Considering it was still PS1). I also loved the card game, spent more time playing cards than the game itself :)
My fiancee's favorite (Yes, I'm lucky enough to have found a woman who shares my love for Final Fantasy!!!) is 9. She is quite fond of the feminine heroine of course and she likes the cute and cuddley characters.
I think 7 is over rated, and 10 is very well done. I have actually replayed 10 the most.

FF6 was the best(also known as 3 on Super Nintendo.) After that I would say FF9. I don't want that future crap, I want an old school RPG with a good story. Also want a reasonable time where I am PLAYING the game. FF7 was what started what I hated in the series and where it went. I don't want to WATCH the game. I would BUY A MOVIE if I wanted to WATCH it. I bought a game to PLAY. That is why I like the Dragon Warrior/Quest series better now.

A few months ago, I would have said X. But I am LOVIN' Final Fantasy XII! Best FF ever!!!!!!!!!! I just love Balthier, what a cool FF character. But, in order, I'd say:
1. FFXII
2. FFX
3. FFVII
4. FFX-2
5. FFVI (released as 3 on the Super Nintendo), because it was my first FF game!

They're all fantastic, but I liked VIII the best. It took everything that VII established on the PS and built onto it. The storyline was engaging, the magic system was new and refreshing, and the Triple Triad mini-game was the icing on the cake.

no doubt 7, not the best graphics, but it has the best story line, hands down. Ive played and beatin it over 10 times because the story line is probably the best i've ever played.

My favorite is Eight, because it was my first, and I like the characters and story a lot.
Seven was good, and Ten was alright, although I hated the leveling system.
