I took my SAT this past november and i wasn't so proud of my score... 1540 out of a 2400. This isn't cutting it for me and the univerities I want to try and get into, so what can i do to improve my score, especially in math since I have not had math for over a year and won't take Trigonometry until this summer. Do those SAT Official Guidebook work? What else can I do?

If i were you I would practice math - but not to the extent where you are stressing yourself out too much. From my experience, when i took my SAT's my second time - just from being experienced - i raised my overall score by 100 (and i didnt study at all). So it is VERY possible that you will recieve a 1640 or even higher.
But to tell you the truth - Trig really will help. just skip those problems on the SAT's. Skipped questions wont worsen ur score, but wrong guesses will.
Good luck!!!!!!!!

Well, taking this question seriously, an SAT class probably wouldn't make that much of a difference, especially if you're a junior. You're only gonna get a chance to take it this spring and summer and maybe in the fall as a senior. You could try reading an SAT prep book that they sell in bookstores, however. It should help you understand the test better. Getting into NYU is about more than just getting a high SAT score. Also, NYU's music department is actually not that interested in your academic record as it is with your musical abilities. You usually have to try out for gaining acceptance into such college music programs. Plus, colleges look at your entire high school curriculum, so everything you've done up till now will be looked on as a whole not just your SAT scores. Keep your sights open for a wide field of schools that can offer you a major in acting, so that you don't only have your hopes on going to NYU, which is a hard school to get into.

I've taken the older version of SAT. But from what my peers were talking about, I think they had added an essay writing to it?

Are your weak areas maths? I would zoom down to the different areas of SAT tests and find out my weaknesses. From here, I could slowly work on the individual weak areas by doing the SAT guide book or practice papers.

Maybe you can get a tutor for trigonometry. That would help you trigo.

Wow. They've raised the score? When I took it, 1600 was perfect.

The SAT guidebooks are very, very helpful. They teach you to think the way the test does. Especially for the language and reasoning portions.

The books help and try to find a practice test program for the computer. You might also want to try a test taking strategy. also take it several times scores usually go up
