My family was wondering aloud last night how much the average American kid had spent on them for Xmas and Hannukah gifts this year. Say like for kids up to 10 years old...

When I was younger approximately 500-1000 bucks. But this is obviously going to vary with income levels. Besides, most of the items growing up that my brother and I wanted were fairly expensive books or learning stuff, not exactly a gi joe thus my parents were more likely to spend money on such a thing.

I don't know what is "average" kid, as far as the money spending on them goes. Some parents don't even have to check the price tag because they are rolling in the dough, some parents have to scramble to come up with extra $10. Also, different families have different traditions. My family tends to give large gifts for Birthdays and life events and only small symbolic gifts, more like signs of attention, for Chrismas.

I don't have children yet, so I spent $0 on them.
