First of all it is good that you are asking questions then simply assuming that what the world teaches you is the truth.

Like how we have Presidents Day as a single holiday representing All the Presidents of the United States. Easter is a holiday that came to represent the Christian belief of the resurrection of Christ Jesus as well as the pagan holiday that celebrates life and fertility (as I recall).

Easter is actually derived from the Pagan Goddess named Ishtar (not sure of the spelling) with the symbols of the chicken and the egg which represents fertility.

Now you know whey the Easter basket has Easter eggs in it... While you didn't see any Easter eggs relating to Christian beliefs.

I'm sorry I don't have the spelling correct..but this is the main idea behind it.. as thought to my by my father. Take it with a grain of salt and continue your search for truth. It can you lead you to a very fulfilled life.

In Catholic and Christian religions, Easter is the day Jesus rose from His tomb, resurrected as our Savior. Coming back from the dead is pretty impressive and what He did following that is reason enough to celebrate. It's all in the Gospels- He spent 40 days with His Disciples and then ascended into Heaven.
I'm hosting a big birthday party for Him on the 25th... want to come? Merry Christmas!

Why is "Easter" one of the main holy days for Christians? Because Christ rose from the dead that first day of the week. If Christ were not risen, then our faith would be vain and we would still be in our sins. (I Corinthians 15)

Not sure about roman catholicism, but the main holy days for most Christians (including RCs) are:

Christmas (the Nativity of our Lord)

Good Friday (the Atonement, Jesus "delivered for our offences")

"Easter" Day (the Resurrection, Jesus "raised for our justification")

Pentecost -- the empowering of the Church

====================

Probably the RCs would add at least March 25 (? Lady Day ?)

In the Christian religion they believe this is when Jesus died & then 'rose again' when his grave was robbed 3 days later. It original was the Pagan festival of Eostre, the Spring festival celebrating new life after the long, dark winter. This is why Easter still uses the symbols of new life, i.e. eggs & rabbits.

Easter is the day that Jesus Christ rose from the dead and for those who have faith this represents their forgiveness from sin. It is important to all Christians. The Catholic church was founded by St. Peter (the APOSTLE) who was there.

Jesus rose from the dead. It is not one of the main holidays. It is the foundation of the whole faith.
